TRUCKRIGHT Industry VehicleTRUCKRIGHT TIV The Ultimate in Road Safety

The TRUCKRIGHT Industry Vehicle or T.I.V for short is the first long distance truck anywhere in the world with the capacity to record the impact of the road into the truck. The 25 metre working B double combination is driven by Australian road safety advocate Rod Hannifey. It uses Check-Way on board scales, a hard drive memory device and the Ins-com road profiling software to record road surface conditions while travelling. The information is later downloaded to a personal computer where irregularities are displayed as spikes on a graph. Comparisons can then be made to previous recordings as to the deterioration of a particular section of road. All recorded road surface information is available to engineers for road maintenance and upgrades. Also fitted to the T.I.V is the 'Watch the Road' video recording system similar to the black box recorders airlines use. The truck drivers behaviour along with all other nearby drivers behaviour is constantly being monitored and recorded with a series of tiny cameras fitted to the truck. A big plus for dedicated professional drivers and insurance companies.

Time Rod donates constantly liaising with various government authorities and industry professionals' results in positive action not only in upgrades to damaged sections of highway but in other initiatives such as the roll out of blue reflectors on roadside markers to alert truck drivers to informal rest areas just ahead, a simple yet brilliant idea for late night trucking. Rod has an impressive list of road safety achievements to his credit and was recently featued on the American Sirius satellite trucking radio network talking road safety with Road Dog.

Supporting this important road safety project is long time owner operator Ken Wilkie who has generously provided Rod with the truck along with prominent Dubbo transport operator Rod Pilon who supplies the trailers and loading. Also supporting the T.I.V is an impressive list of transport industry sponsors who have donated their time and products in aid of road safety. See below for more information.
